The Sadrist movement led by the young Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ended its boycott of government and parliament, which it began in Novemeber when Prime Minister Maliki met President Bush in Amman, said parliamentary speaker Mahmood al-Mishhadani. Sadirist parliamentary deputy Salih al-Akili said his movement has returned to political life after getting parliamentary guarantees about a schedule for the development of the Iraqi forces and assurances that there would be no extension to the occupation without the matter being referred to parliament.
