Sistani Hits Out at Militias

Al-Sabah is an independent, publicly owned daily newspaper.

Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has said that militias should not be able to carry weapons, insisting this right was reserved for government forces. National security counsellor Mowaffaq al-Rubaii added that Sistani believes the law of the land should be applied equally to all Iraqis, regardless of their ethnic background. Al-Rubaii went on to say that the government intended to crackdown on neighbourhoods where terrorists are active.
