The bodies of two Italians were recovered from a house in the 10th district of Kabul on February 16. One of them worked for the international programme for developing the Afghan judiciary, while the other was an Italian foreign ministry employee. There were no visible signs of injury. The head of the crime department at the Afghan interior ministry, General Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, said, “Preliminary investigations showed that they died as a result of inhaling gas.” Officials at the Italian embassy in Kabul confirmed that they believe gas poisoning might have been the cause of death.
