In a press conference, acting oil minister Hashim al-Hashimi said the fire at the oil ministry on May 2 was caused by the staff's carelessness. He said the ministry's office for handling salaries was affected by the fires but that the ministry did not suffer any financial losses. He thanked the interior ministry for providing security for the ministry after the fire and promised to form a joint committee with the interior ministry to investigate the incident. He denied that fuel prices would be raised and said some petrol stations decided to (hike fuel prices) on their own. He said those who raised prices (without the government's permission) would be punished. Fuel prices hikes will be discussed after the new government forms.
