Two Afghan policemen were injured in the northern province of Kapisa on April 16 when protestors threw stones at them during a demonstration about water shortages. The protest turned violent after police stopped protestors from entering the provincial governor's office. Colonel Abdul Wahed, one of the organisers of the protest, said water stopped flowing to 10,000 families living in 25 villages after work got under way to remove silt from canals. He said that if an adequate water supply was not restored, thousands of acres of farmland would be destroyed.
