A mine explosion left two people dead in the southern province of Helmand on May 5, officials said. Haji Mahiddin, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the two were on their way to a mosque in the Kajaki district when a landmine went off, killing them on the spot. Both of the deceased belonged to the entourage of Helmand’s former governor Shir Mohammad Akhundzada.
