A business forum called “Economic Potential of Tashkent” will opens in the Uzbek capital on January 28.

The event is the first in a series intended to mark the 2,200th anniversary of Tashkent this year.

Tashkent’s location and climate made it an important location on the historical Silk Route between China and the West.

The city has about 250 archeological sites and monuments, some listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

At the same time, Tashkent is a modern city with commercial, banking and academic centres.

The Uzbek authorities are planning a range of events to show off the city to the international community and seek new partnerships.
