Syria Can't Prevent Militants Crossing to Iraq - Interior Minister
Syria Media Report, 16-Nov-07
Interior Minister Bassam Abdul Majid has said the infiltration of militants into Iraq via Syrian territory is due to his country’s inability to guard its long border, Syria News reported.
“We try our best to deploy forces and install observation points, but no state is able to fully guard its borders,” he said.
In addition, Abdul Majid denied that President Bashar al-Asad would support a potential Turkish incursion into northern Iraq.
Despite recent reports that relations with Saudi Arabia are growing strained, Abdul Majid said Syria has no disagreements with that country, and indeed needs the support of fraternal states to regain its occupied lands.
