Tuesday, 13 March, 2007
Ubaydullo Yamonkulov, accused by locals of beating farmers for not meeting their cotton-growing targets, has resigned as governor of Jizzakh, one of Uzbekistan’s most important industrial regions. Не handed in his notice on February 14, citing poor health, and was replaced by Musa Anarbayev on an acting basis. Yamonkulov was reportedly an ally of Prime Minister Shavkat Mirzioyev.
