The Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Hassan Kadhimi Kimmi, confirmed that Iranian-US talks on Iraq had been cancelled. He said Iran did not deem it necessary to hold the talks from the beginning. He maintained that Iran agreed to talk with the Americans (about Iraq) because several Iraqi party leaders had requested the discussions be held in a bid to solve Iraq's problems.
