Tuesday, 17 July, 2007
Baimyrat Hojamuhammedov has become Turkmenitsan’s new oil and gas industry and mineral resource minister for a six-month probation period. Former head of the oil and gas ministry Gurbanmyrat Ataev was removed from the post “due to a change of workplace”.

Yagshygeldy Esenov was also dismissed as head of the Supreme Court, or kazyet, for failing to cope with heading the state commission for law enforcement bodies and reviewing citizens’ complaints and “for allowing violations of the law in courts”. Esenov did not get past his six-month probation period and has been replaced by Chary Hojamyradov, a former judge from Ashgabat.

The textile industry ministry has also undergone a shakeup and Jamal Geoklenova, former head of Turkmenhaly (Turkmen carpets) state stock corporation, has been appointed head of the ministry for a six-month probationary period. Geoklenova served in this position for several years, but was sacked by Niazov in 2002 “for shortcomings in the agency’s work”.
