Dushanbe Residents Anticipate Heating Problems

The city’s Soviet-era centralised heating system is about to be cranked into action, where hot water is piped to the radiators in apartment blocks. However, the system is failing and many apartment residents boil water on electric plates and use fuel-burning stoves to heat their homes.



To wash, many use the traditional communal bathhouses, many of which have switched from electricity to coal in anticipation of power cuts. Those which have not gone upmarket and become saunas remain relatively cheap albeit in a poor state of repair.
