The opposition United Front for a Worthy Future for Kyrgyzstan has told the Bishkek city authorities that over 50 of its activists will go on hunger strike in front of parliament on April 5. The United Front, led by former prime minister Felix Kulov, said in a statement that up to 50,000 people will take part in an open-ended demonstration on Bishkek’s main square from April 11. At the same time, members of another opposition group, the Movement for Reforms, are expecting President Kurmanbek Bakiev to make some concessions and have announced they will convene ahead of the United Front demonstration to decide whether or not they are going to support it.
