Officials and the public have condemned the storming of the house of a former mujahedin commander by US soldiers last week in the northeastern province of Takhar. Provincial governor Khwaja Ghulam Ghaus Abubakar on March 13 criticised American troops for forcibly entering the house of former commander Aminullah Shaghasi without informing local officials in advance. Calling the action illegal and contrary to security regulations, the governor said, “If the commander had weapons, the Americans should have informed us and we would have disarmed him.” He said that the US military entered Takhar via Kunduz airport.
