The Afghan parliament on February 4 condemned the publication of blasphemous cartoons in a Danish newspaper, as well as their republication in several other European countries. A unanimous resolution passed by parliament said, “Insulting any prophet of Almighty Allah and the religion revealed by Him is strictly forbidden, and also goes against human dignity and is a clear violation of human rights.” It described the publishing of the offensive caricatures a grave crime and a treacherous act, according to all divine religions. Publishing such humiliating items under the pretence of freedom of the press was an insult to journalism and writers, it added.
