Women in the area spend many hours a day hauling buckets water; a lucky few have donkeys to do the carrying.

Saidmurod Kalandarov of the city water authority says the area is in fact getting its quota through the mains system – which in this case means four hour a day. Residents’ group leaders say this is incorrect, as water only reaches a few homes before running out.

To get an assured constant supply, Kalandarov added, residents would have to pay their water rates, and have meters installed.
