Insurgent leaders give up the fight

Erada is an independent daily run by the Afghan Media and Resource Centre.

Sixty-nine militia commanders in Paktia, Nuristan, Kandahar, and Nangarhar provinces have renounced armed resistance and joined the government’s peace and reconciliation process. The head of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission, Hazrat Sebghatullah Mujaddidi, told a press conference in Kabul on February 22 that the government will distribute land to these commanders in the near future. He added that another group of anti-government fighters are expected to join the peace process soon.
