Taleban commander surrenders in Zabul

Outlook is an independent daily published in English.

A local Taleban commander joined the government-sponsored reconciliation process in the southern province of Zabul on April 3. Maulawi Shafiullah accepted an offer of amnesty and surrendered to the authorities after mediation by local police, provincial police chief Mohammad Nabi Mullahkhel said. The official said Shafiullah had promised to encourage his associates to join the amnesty process and had vowed to work for the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
