Dushanbe Parents Press for Younger School Age

The Tajik education ministry is planning to lower the age at which children go to school from seven to six, but not for a couple of years.

As Zulfia Rashed reports, that is not soon enough for some parents in the capital Dushanbe, who argue that their six-year-olds can already read and would be well able to move on from kindergarten and cope in school.

Despite this pressure, local schools are not bending the current rules, which require children to be seven before they go into formal education.
