An October 11 editorial in the official newspaper Tishreen argued that as a result of the international financial crisis, the United States has permanently relinquished its role as global economic leader.

In the piece, editor-in-chief Issam Dari said the US had lost power, reputation and credibility after eight years of conservative rule, and these policy decisions would take years to reverse.

Dari said the US “war on terror” had created more rather than less terrorism.

If the US was once the world’s strongest country with a responsibility to provide peace and security and peace, it was now the source of crises, chaos and war, he said.
