Two Afghan workers with a construction company were released by their kidnappers on April 16. The two, an engineer and his driver, were kidnapped by unidentified armed men 10 days ago while working on a bridge on the Kabul-Kandahar highway near Qalat, capital of the southern Zabul province. Officials say the pair was freed following successful negotiations between their kidnappers and tribal elders. The provincial police chief in Zabul said no ransom was paid.
