Thousands of residents in the southern province of Kandahar staged a demonstration on January 18, blaming Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence, ISI, for the suicide bombing on January 16 which killed 20 and wounded dozens of others at a wrestling match in the Spin Boldak district. The demonstrators, chanting, “Death to Pakistan! Death to ISI!” demanded that the United Nations stop Pakistanis carrying out acts of destruction in Afghanistan. Protesters blamed Pakistan for interfering in Afghan affairs and causing unrest. One of them said, “The main factor of unrest in our country is the terrorists who are trained in various parts of Pakistan.” Meanwhile, a self-styled Taleban spokesman denied any involvement in the Spin Boldak attack.
