President to Move Iranian Power Projects Along

Friday, 4 May, 2007
Tajik president Imomali Rahmon travels to Qatar and Iran on May 6. While in the latter country, he will discuss two Iranian investment projects – plans to build the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power station and lay a high-voltage transmission line from there to the city of Mashhad in northeast Iran. Tajikistan is keenly interested in seeing the power plant finished, as this will help reduce its dependence on imported Uzbek energy over the winter months.

Rahmon’s trip is a return visit - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Tajikistan at the end of July last year.
