Salam al-Maliki to represent Sadrists in Shia alliance

Al-Sabah al-Jadeed is an independent daily paper.

The Sadrist bloc in the United Iraqi Alliance, UIA, has named transport minister Salam al-Maliki as the head of its parliamentary faction. Lawmaker Kusai al-Suhail of the UIA said that al-Maliki would play a big part in representing the views of the Sadrists, and this should help narrow the gap between the political parties in parliament, which holds its first session next week. The Sadrist movement will support all forces that work in the interests of Iraq, he added.
