Afghan officials regained control of Pul-e-Charkhi prison on March 1, after four days of rioting which left six inmates dead and many more injured, officials said. Deputy Justice Minister Mohammad Qasim Hashimzai, who is heading a group charged with resolving the prisoners’ grievances, said that so far more than 100 rioting convicts have been transferred to the prison’s Block Two. He said the process is continuing, and that the most dangerous prisoners have been placed in separate cells.
