Unidentified armed men killed a government official and wounded a schoolteacher in Lashkargah, provincial capital of the southern province of Helmand, on the night of May 13. Witnesses in the area say that two armed motorcyclists opened fire at the pair and then made off. Provincial officials said the teacher was in critical condition. The officials blamed the enemies of peace and of the people [term means Taliban and associates] for the attack.
