Insurgents repent in Kunar

Erada is an independent daily run by the Afghan Media and Resource Centre.

Eighteen former opponents of the government have joined the peace and reconciliation process in the eastern province of Kunar. Provincial governor Assadullah Wafa said the men, who had been linked to the Taleban and the Hezb-e-Islami party, aligned themselves with the government after mediation by tribal elders. Hezb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar said in a tape released last week that no member of his party would ever join the US-backed Afghan government.
