Building Resilience in Moldova (BRIM)
Building Resilience in Moldova (BRIM) strengthens public resilience to disinformation by empowering local organisations, fostering collaboration across sectors, and promoting access to reliable information.
Years active: 2024-present
The Building Resilience in Moldova (BRIM) project, implemented by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) in partnership with the Association of Independent Press (API), enhances Moldova’s capacity to counter disinformation and strengthen public trust in credible information.
Funded by the European Union, BRIM aims to increase societal resilience to disinformation through two complementary objectives:
- Empowering Moldovan organisations to design and deliver counter-disinformation campaigns through technical, organisational, and financial support;
- Fostering coordination and cooperation among civil society, media, academia, government, private, and creative sectors via the ICDC in Chișinău.
Through tailored support, training, and mentoring, BRIM empowers local partners – including the Association of Independent Press (API), Youth Media Center (YMC), and Zona de Securitate (ZDS) – to engage vulnerable audiences such as Russian-speaking youth, rural communities, and citizens in Transnistria and Gagauzia. These initiatives strengthen access to fact-based information, enhance media literacy, and promote critical thinking skills.
BRIM also drives innovation in Moldova’s counter-disinformation landscape by convening journalists, civil society actors, technologists, and policymakers through hackathons, cross-sectoral forums etc. These platforms encourage collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of sustainable, locally-led solutions.
By investing in local capacity and fostering cooperation across sectors, BRIM advances a more informed, cohesive, and democratic Moldova – one able to recognise, resist, and respond to disinformation and malign foreign influence.
