No Normalisation with Israel

Syria Media Report, 4-Dec-07

Foreign Minister Waleed al-Muallem has insisted that Syrian participation in the Annapolis peace conference did not mean that it was considering normalising or improving relations with Syria.

The government-backed Al-Thawra newspaper reported on November 26 that Muallem said Syria would not consider normalising relations with Israel unless it withdrew from the lands it occupied in 1967.

Muallem said the conference could prove a turning point for the peace process if Israel showed a commitment to the Arab states.
