President Jalal Talbani said the mutual interests of Iraq and Iran enhance bilateral relations between the two states, and that it is time to develop political and economic relations. He added that Iran will strongly work to help rid Iraq of terrorism. Talabani's made the statement while meeting with leaders in Iran. It was the first time an Iraqi president had visited Iran in forty years. Iranian president Ahmadi Najad said Iran will work to develop and modernise Iraq. The two presidents negotiated the possibility of cooperation in the fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals and electricity.
