Neighbouring countries are unhappy that anti-government elements in Afghanistan are joining the government, said Sibghatullah Mujaddidi, head of the National Reconciliation Commission. Addressing a seminar of provincial councils held in Kabul on February 27, Mujaddidi, who is also speaker of the Meshrano Jirga, the upper house of parliament, expressed satisfaction that more than 1,400 of the government’s opponents have been reconciled with the administration so far. Mujaddidi asked the members of the provincial councils to launch negotiations with government opponents and encourage them to join the peace and reconciliation process.
