Russian state disinformation is increasingly active in the Latin America region, presenting an enormous challenge as misleading narratives fuel social polarisation and influence electoral processes.

The independent press plays a vital role in unmasking such machinery.  This IWPR event will give journalists and other stakeholders the opportunity to reflect and learn some of the disinformation strategies employed by Russia around the world.

Specifically, we will address how Russia uses disinformation in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and El Salvador in the context of the war in Ukraine, as well as in Eurasia.

The free virtual meeting will be on:

Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 9:00 MEX/HON/GUA, 10:00 PE/COL, 11:00 VE.

The panelists will be:

  • María Virginia Marín founder and director of the Probox digital observatory,
  • Monica Ellena IWPR Eurasia editor,
  • Carolina Méndez IWPR moderator.
