Parliament takes stock of Herat violence

Outlook is an independent daily published in English.

Expressing grave concerns over Shia-Sunni clashes in the western province of Herat, the Meshrano Jirga, the upper house of parliament, said the conflict went against the teachings of Islam and should not be repeated. The parliamentarians prayed for the souls of those who died in the February 9 violence in Herat, on the [Shia] holy day of Ashura. They also expressed hope that a government-appointed delegation led by Water and Energy Minister [and former Herat governor] Ismail Khan would restore peace to the province.
