An Italian lawyer said (former Iraqi foreign minister and vice-president under Saddam Hussein's regime) Tariq Aziz has asked the Italian government to grant his family asylum in Italy. Aziz (a Christian) asked the Pope to guard his rights as a prisoner. The source added that Aziz said, “They want to settle scores with me and with my family.” He claimed that two of his sons were abducted but did not mention who perpetrated the alleged crimes.
