New Mechanisms to Check Food Quality

Al-Mada is issued daily by Al-Mada Institute for Media, Culture, and Arts.

Trade minister Abdul Falah al-Sudani has said the government will not allow imported foodstuff that are past their expiry date to be given out as ration-card items. The ministry has set out plans to check all items subject to rationing when they enter Iraq. Many substandard foodstuffs have been destroyed, and the ministry has ended contracts with offending import firms. Sudani also said his ministry was carrying out a study to evaluate the role of ration cards.
