Talabani Oversees Negotiations for Forming New Government

Al-Ittihad is published daily by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

Under the supervision of Iraqi president Jalal Talabani and Kurdish regional president Masood Barzani, the composition of the new government has been discussed at a meeting between the Kurdistan Alliance and the United Iraqi Alliance. Ayad Allawi, Adnan al-Dulaimi, Tariq al-Hashimi and Khalaf al-Alyan also attended the meeting. They discussed the possibility of forming a government of national unity, and of coordinating between different blocs to arrive at a programme to underpin the future cabinet’s work. They also discussed the United Iraqi Alliance’s nomination of Ibrahim al-Jafari for the post of prime minister.
