According to the Iranian news agency Farsnews, Iran’s commerce minister Masoud Mir Kazemi and economy and finance minister Shamseddin Hosseini will visit Turkmenistan on June 8.

NBCentralAsia observers say there is some willingness on both sides to cooperate more on economic matters, particularly on developing the Turkmen gas industry.

Iran has contracted to buy an additional ten billion cubic metres of Turkmen gas a year, over and above the eight billion it currently gets via the Korpeje-Kurtkoy pipeline, which was constructed as a joint venture.

The Iranians are also in talks on taking a share of the work to develop the Iolatan gas field in southeastern Turkmenistan.
