Why We Did Not Vote

Reasons for the low-turn out of voters in last Saturday’s National assembly polls are beginning to emerge.

Some Nigerians resident in Lagos have opened up on why they shunned the exercise.

Uzoma Ihediohanma , a banker said he cannot cast his vote for politicians who sit in cars with tinted glasses, un-seen by and aloof from the people.

He wondered why such politicians should expect people to stand in the sun on Election Day to vote for them.

Joy Pius, a student said going to vote would have amounted to a waste of time because she knew the power brokers in politics would, as usual, impose their favoured candidates on the people, through
rigging.

In her case, Mrs. Adeyemi, a trader, said she didn’t vote because she did not know any of the candidates and cannot simply vote for any face on a poster.

Abia, an unemployed youth, said he didn’t vote because he does not belong to any political party and does not trust any of the existing ones.
