Three Taleban militants were killed in a clash with Afghan government soldiers in the southern province of Helmand on May 9, officials said. Haji Mahiuddin, spokesman for the provincial governor, said that the clash erupted when a group of militants ambushed local police. The police recovered two Kalashnikov assault rifles from the attackers. Mahiuddin said no policemen were injured in the incident. But a Taleban spokesman said that the militants killed five policemen in the clash, and that none of their own side were.
