Third journalist killed in a week

Al-Mashriq is published daily by Al-Mashriq Institute for Media and Cultural Investments.

Iraqi police confirmed on March 14 that the editor–in-chief of the weekly magazine Alef Baa had been killed by persons unknown. A source at the Iraqi journalists’ union said Muhsin Khudair was shot dead in front of his house in then al-Alam neighbourhood of Baghdad. The source, who requested anonymity, added that Khudair’s nephew and cousin were injured in the shooting and taken to al-Yarmook hospital. At a meeting the previous day, the journalists’s union had asked the government to take steps to protect journalists.
