Tajikistan's Temporary Orphans

Of the more than 9,000 children in care, most are not orphans and have not been either abandoned or formally given up by parents and relatives.



Reporter Shoira Yusupova visited one home in the capital Dushanbe where there are new applications for one of the 115 places every day.



“The parents bring their children here because of difficulties with life,” said the head of the home. “Either they don’t have anywhere to live or they are in dire straits financially.”
