Two Canadian soldiers were wounded when a suicide bomber crashed his explosive-laden car into a Canadian and Afghan National Army convoy in the Maiwand district of the southern province of Kandahar on May 1. Provincial security officials said that the incident happened when the soldiers were on their way from the southern province of Helmand to their base in Kandahar. The Afghan and Canadian military sealed off the site shortly after the attack. However, a spokesperson for Coalition Forces in Kandahar said the Canadian vehicle was hit not by a suicide bomber but by a roadside explosive device.
