Unidentified gunmen men shot and wounded a religious scholar in the southern province of Kandahar on the night of May 9, officials said. Maulawi Ghulam Mohammad Gharib, chief of Kandahar ulema council, said that Maulawi Mohammad Shafiq was on his way home in the Zhiray district when unidentified men opened fire at him. Nearly one year ago, the then head of the Kandahar ulema council was shot dead.
