Religious group wants arms retrieved

A Christian group has advised government to conduct a house-to-house search for the recovery of illegal firearms in Kaduna state.

The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Council alleged that such illegal weapons were used during the recent post-election violence in Kafanchan, southern Kaduna.

The Chairman of the council, Rev. Joseph Bagobiri, described the destruction as massive; claiming that about N3. 5billion would be required to rebuild hundreds of destroyed houses and markets.

Reverend Bagobiri also said over 350 people were killed while about 14,000 others were displaced during the crisis.

Reverend Bagobiri told pressmen that retrieving the weapons should be accorded priority by the security agencies in order to disarm those who might be planning further attacks.
