Prospects of Elections in Five Gubernatorial Races Still Unclear
Elections for governorship in five states still hang in the balance.
This follows the decision by the Federal Court of Appeal in Abuja to reserve judgment in the case brought by INEC against the governors of Cross River, Adamawa, Bayelsa, Sokoto and Kogi States.
The five governors had earlier won a judgement, extending their term of office by 12 months, meaning they would not face re- election in these states on the 26th April when the rest of Nigeria votes for new state governors.
The five claimed that, unlike other governors, they have not yet had a full four-year term and should not have to face the voters until next year.
This is because they did not actually assume office until re-run elections had been completed in 2008.
It is not clear what the candidates, from all parties, vying for the governorship in these states, will now do.
