Poppy cultivation on the rise in Afghanistan – UN spokesperson

Anis is a state-run daily published mostly in Dari

United Nations officials in Afghanistan say that poppy cultivation has increased in 13 provinces of the country. A survey is conducted each year by the Afghan counter-narcotics ministry and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC. The survey conducted in 2005 showed a 21 per cent decrease from the previous year but the current surveys show that poppy cultivation has increased this year.
