Unidentified armed men shot dead a policeman on January 22 in the central province of Ghazni, 140 kilometres south of Kabul, officials said. Provincial governor Haji Shir Alam confirmed the incident, saying that a group of anti-government fighters attacked a vehicle carrying police in the Andar district of the province, killing one officer and wounding another. He added that the attack was carried out by Taleban insurgents and that the local police have launched an investigation into the case, but that no one has been yet been arrested.
