PDP adds two more to governorship sweep

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has won two more governorship seats. It took Kaduna and Bauchi states in last Thursday's governorship and assembly elections.

Following the results, Patrick Yakowa becomes the first elected Christian governor in Kaduna; acclaimed as the political capital of the north. Kaduna was the post-colonial seat of the northern regional government.

Yakowa became Acting governor when Namadi Sambo, originally elected governor in 2007 was named Deputy to President Goodluck Jonathan. But the Vice-President again lost his local voting unit as in previous elections.

In Bauchi, Isa Yuguda was re-elected for another term.

With Thursday's result, PDP has taken Nineteen out of the Twenty Five governorship results so far declared. Only the result of Imo state is now outstanding.
