New Head for Central Electoral Committee

New Head for Central Electoral Committee

Friday, 9 March, 2007
On March 6, Aichurek Eshimova was named head of the Central Electoral Committee after a virtually unanimous vote in her favour. In the course of parliamentary debates on her candidacy, some opposition members accused her of conspiring with the government to dissolve parliament, and urged colleagues not to vote for her. Eshimova, who until now headed the electoral commission in Chui region, replaces Tuigunaly Abdraimov, who resigned last December. Eshimova will be in charge of organising much-anticipated parliamentary by-elections in the Kemin and Otuzadyr constituencies at the end of April.
