Kyrgyz Diet Enriched by Ostriches

In a land where mutton and poultry are mainstays of the diet, Jazgul Jamangulova reports on a small but growing industry – ostrich farming.

The birds have taken to the local climate, and are proving a lucrative source of income, especially as everything is used – meat, eggs and feathers – and comes in a giant package.

At the moment, the meat is still expensive and is mainly bought by the wealthier classes looking for something out of the ordinary.
